Fox Business host and guest bemoan child tax credit payments: “it’s going be very popular”

STUART VARNEY (HOST): Get ready for something we have not seen in a very long time — a new entitlement program, and the checks start rolling out this week. Except for the most affluent, all families with children get cash, no strings attached, $300 a month for each child under six, $250 a month for each youngster 6 to 17. You don't have to apply, you are automatically enrolled. And as we said, the money starts flowing this week.
However, to keep it flowing, to extend the program, the president needs a Yes vote in Congress. And here’s where politics comes in. Question — which politician is going to say no to money for children? The parents of 70 million youngsters will be getting this money — that is a very large group of voters. When they get used to the checks, will they vote for the politicians who cut them off? Probably not. And remember, when the government starts to give something, it’s almost impossible to take it away.
This is a very big part of the Democrats' plan to make America much more like Europe. We're already well along the road to socialized health care, why not cash for kids? This is exactly what this program is. The Democrats plan to pay for this by raising taxes on big business and the rich. That's not going to work. There's not enough tax-hiking money to pay for the Green New Deal, infrastructure, and this new entitlement plan. So we'll have to borrow it -- and go further into massive debt, just like Europe.
Remember please, the bottom line here is the Democrats are buying votes.

VARNEY: The checks will start rolling, 300 bucks a month under the age of six. 250 from 6 to 17. If you’ve got more than two children, I mean, that money is coming right at you. Some people, low-income people, will actually have their income doubled with this. That’s going to make it very popular. They’re going to vote for the people who give them that money. It’s going to be awfully difficult for the Republicans to turn around and say, wait a minute, wait a minute, we can't afford this, it’s going to make inflation worse. They’re going to have a hard time saying no to this.
HURT: Absolutely, and that’s what’s so insidious about it.
